Sanitation addresses waste and water quality related to human activities, covering a wide range of issues—from preventing health hazards through hygienic treatment to preventing water pollution in public water bodies such as rivers and lakes through the proper treatment and reuse of domestic and industrial wastewater. It also includes stormwater management in urban areas.
The JSC’s mission is to provide support to countries in the Asia-Pacific region where access to sanitation facilities is limited, and to improve and promote sanitation facilities in order to enhance public health and prevent water pollution. It also aims to propose solutions and operational policies for each country addressing sanitation issues, such as a matrix for selecting appropriate technologies tailored to the specific circumstances and needs of each host country.
