Dialogue between Multilateral Development Banks and Japanese Water and Environment Solution Hub

On 27 July 2012 was organized in Kobe the Dialogue between Multilateral Development Banks and Japanese Water and Environmnet Solution Hub (WES Hub). This meeting included five development bank institutions operating in different regions of the world; representatives from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT); the current six member cities of the WES Hub; and JSC which will act as the central contact point of the hub.

The WES Hub is an alliance of cities in Japan with advanced experiences and know-how in water, sanitation and the environment in fields such as technology, operation and maintenance, policy and human resource development, and Public Private Partnership (PPP). The WES Hub member cities stand out by the way they solved water and environmental pollution issues and/or made extraordinary recovery from natural disasters. The aim of this new alliance is to provide these advanced experiences and knowledge to cities of emerging nations in collaboration with MLIT and JSC.

The Dialogue enabled the six WES Hub member cities to introduce their activities to the multilateral development banks and learn from them about the existing needs and areas to focus on. This meeting marked the first step of promising collaboration opportunities in which cities from advanced and less andvanced countries can work together for mutual benefit.
