以下は国交省ＷＥＢサイトからの引用です。 「下水道の日」は、昭和36年、著しく遅れている下水道の全国的な普及を図る必要があることから、このアピールを全国的に展開するため、下水道を所管していた建設省、厚生省、日本下水道協会が協議して「全国下水道促進デー」として始まりました。21世紀のスタートにあたる平成13年、旧下水道法が制定された明治33年から100年を迎え、記念行事が行われたことなどから、近年の下水道に対する認識の高まりもあり、より親しみのある名称として「下水道の日」に変更されました。 「下水道の日」が9月10日と定められたのは、下水道の大きな役割の一つである「雨水の排除」を念頭に、台風シーズンである210日を過ぎた220日（立春から数えて）が適当であるとされたことによります。 国土交通省では、国民の下水道に対する理解・関心を高めるため、「下水道の日」である９月１０日を中心に、下水道の魅力を伝える活動を行っています。 ＪＳＣの構成団体である下水道事業支援センターが参加している「21世紀の下水道を考える会」協議会では、「下水道の日」ポスターを作成・公開しています。
